Closing date is getting near

4. 3. 2009

To this day more than 4,900 entries by children from 33 countries of the world were received for the 37th edition of ICEFA Lidice, wit the most entries coming from Turkey. Thanks to the massive campaign, a large amount of dispatched invitations to participate as well as appeals to Czech embassies in non-participating countries in the last year, we managed to involve many new schools and organizations. Children from Germany, Mexico and Afghanistan participate after a longer pause and entries from Canada were received for the first time.

With the closing date drawing near the daily number of entries delivered to the Lidice Gallery is usually between 20 and 30. The photos show the mail delivered on Wednesday 4 March and the storeroom slowly filling up with the registered entries.

Besieged by ETs

19. 3. 2009

To date, more than 10,000 entries by children from 44 countries of the world were accepted for the 37th edition of ICEFA Lidice. With 1,845 entries by children from 88 schools, Turkish children are the most active ones this year. Three-dimensional entries from the Czech schools registered for the competition were brought in this week. Our storerooms are getting full with collections of space shuttles, flying saucers, orbiting planets and fairly motley bunches of ETs.

As a large amount of consignments comes to the Lidice Gallery even after the closing date, a big proportion of entries has not yet been processed and registered in the database. Therefore, we apologise to all questioners from the Czech Republic and abroad for our being unable to confirm the receipt of their entries. The reason can be clearly seen on the photographs.

After the Closing Date and the Sitting of the Panel

28. 4. 2009

The panel of judges of the 37th ICEFA Lidice 2009 met on 7 and 8 April to assess 21,731 entries by children from 53 countries of the world, including CR and SR. Considering the enormous participation, it was no easy job. There have been more than 1.400 winning entries, including the medals awarded to individuals and schools for collections.

Since thorough and exacting check of the information related to the list of the child winners is involved, particularly the names and addresses of participants from abroad, the list of the winners has not yet been completed. However, we work hard to make it available on our website after 11 May.

The ceremonial opening will take place at the Lidice Gallery at Lidice on 27 May, 2009 at 11 a.m. Detailed information will be made available.

Thanks for your understanding.

Sending awards to children abroad in a shipment MZV CR

28. 8. 2009

On 13 August, awards were sent to children in the United Arab Emirates in a shipment of MZV CR.
On 14 August, awards were sent to children in Kazakhstan and Thailand.
On 27 August, awards were dispatched to children from Austria, Belarus, China, Croatia, Finland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Slovenia, Syria and Venezuela.
Other consignments will be sent in the next shipment of MZV CR.

Packed with certificates and medals for child winners, catalogues, invitations to participate in the next edition, and other information, including letters to schools that were not awarded a prize, the consignments have been sent directly to the diplomatic mission of the Czech Republic in the capital of the respective country. The way of awarding the prizes depends on accepted practices and possibilities of staffs of the respective embassies – often there is a festive programme at the embassy arranged for the child winners, or, in some other countries, the ambassador, visiting the school, grants prizes directly in the school, or in other countries (India, Kazakhstan), where long distances are involved, the prizes are sent out to children by mail.

Photographs of prize awards can be seen under Prize Awards of the respective edition.

Distribution of remaining awards and reports from prize awards

15. 12. 2009

By the end of November all remaining consignments containing awards for children in various countries were sent in to the respective Czech diplomatic missions. As early as September, but more often in October and November 2009, ceremonial awards of certificates and medals were taking place at Czech embassies or directly at winning schools in participating countries.

We are very pleased when we receive any report or photograph from these ceremonial programmes. It is a very important feedback for us, the result of our work at Lidice. We thank very much to all staffs of embassies for organizing and implementing prize awards to winning children, disseminating information on the exhibition and promoting the exhibition in their destinations.
