ICEFA 2008 prize awards - Belarus, Minsk

On 6 February 2009 participants in “the 36th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2008” were ceremoniously awarded honourable mentions and a honourable medal in a decorated room of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Minsk. There were nine children awarded, from the school no. 58 at Gomel and the school no. 8 at Soligorsk.
CDA Jiří Karas opened his speech by welcoming all children, their teachers and parents. He thanked children for their active participation in the competition, congratulated them for their achievements and briefly mentioned the tragic fate of the village of Lidice and their inhabitants. He concluded with an invitation for children to participate in the next editions of the competition.
After the CDA’s speech, Petr Richter awarded children with honourable mentions, granting Jana Biljakova also a honourable medal. Moreover, all children were presented with gifts from our diplomatic mission as an expression of thanks for their participation in the competition. Unhappily, strong wave of flu epidemic prevent some children from receiving personally the certificates at the Embassy.
Having thanked for a warm welcome at our Embassy, the teacher Tatiana Repina from Gomel said that the children enjoyed the prizes and the gifts and emphasized that schools appreciate the co-operation between Belarus and the Czech Republic. After the official programme ended, a very cordial atmosphere developed during the banquet. The teachers were particularly interested in study opportunities at our universities as well as in touristic opportunities in the CR.
The prize awards were attended also by an editor of the independent Belarusian newspaper Našja Volja.
