ICEFA 2008 prize awards - Republic of Korea, Seoul

26. 3. 2009

Children and young people of South Korea have been taking part in the Lidice Fine Art Competition for no less than 20 years, since relations between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea were established, and it was not any different last and this year.

Accompanied by their mothers, five girls in school uniforms accepted the invitation of the ambassador of the CR, Jaroslav Olša, jr. to the Czech restaurant Castle Praha (www.castlepraha.co.kr) in Seoul. The integrated Central European-style café witnessed them trying some sweets and having the certificates awarded to them by the organizers of the 36th edition of the traditional Czech children’s and youth’s Lidice fine art competition (www.mdvv-lidice.cz). Besides the certificates sent from Lidice, the students of the Sunhwa Art School in Seoul and of the Pusan secondary art school received a set of books in Korean relating to our country – the historical guidebook Praha by the scholar in Czech studies Kim Kju-Jin, a collection of translations of Central European tales and fables and the book The Gardener’s Year by Karel Čapek.

In total, there were eleven winners in the Republic of Korea, from Seoul and Pusan, out of whom five, all girls, attended the prize award ceremony on 16 March 2009: Kim Jeong Hyun, Lim Hye In, Park Youree, Sim Kye Yeon and Kim Jill Hee.

Students from Busan Middle School of Arts will be awarded later in April 2009 in Busan, 2nd biggest city in Korea.
