ICEFA 2008 prize awards - Kazakhstan, Astana

15 May 2009 saw the ICEFA Lidice 2008 prize award ceremony held for the second time at the State Museum of Fine Arts in downtown Astana, with 18 certificates and 4 medals bestowed.
The ceremony enjoyed great interest from both the children – the competition participants – and their parents. Some of them travelled hundreds of miles to the capital to receive their prizes. The official part was opened by the director of the N. V. Shirin Museum and by Ambassador B. Kopecký. B. Kopecký presented children with their certificates and medals as well as small keepsakes.
Those present were mainly children from the Centre of Out-of-School Work and Creative Activities in the town of Taraz (southern part of Kazakhstan), some representatives of the schools no. 83 and 28 from Almata and among others, the director of the Special Boarding School at Patropavlovsk. Talking with B. Kopecky he mentioned that his school pays great attention to the exhibition, which pupils are happy to participate in. The youngest competitor was a four-year-old girl, L. Mandrakova from Usť Kamenogorsk.
The embassy at Astana thanks for having been sent the works of Kazakh children. These pictures were exhibited at the museum, arranged in three rows, with participants posing for remembrance photos in front of them. The TV channel Astana used the pictures in its programme about the Czech Republic.
