ICEFA 2009 Prize Awards - Slovenia, Ljubljana

On 2 February 2010 Ambassador of the CR Petr Voznica visited Maribor, the administrative centre of the Triglav region, to bestow certificates and medals upon primary school and grammar school pupils for their success in the 37th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts “Lidice 2009”.
First the Ambassador visited the Francet Rozman Stanet Primary School. Awarding certificates to four winners from the 7th grade, he invited their schoolmates to participate in the competition as well. He advised the present teachers and pupils of the themes of the 38th edition as well as the deadline for entries to be received.
The exhibition “The Bests of the Czech Republic” was installed on the school premises to enhance knowledge about the Czech Republic and upon agreement with the headmistress of the F.R. Stanet School, Breda Kutnjak, the Ambassador promised to attend the official conclusion of the exhibition at the end of February where a talk and a discussion with pupils will be held about interesting things in the Czech Republic. By that time pupils will prepare essays presenting their knowledge of the CR and its culture.
Another school visited was the Grammar School Maribor II, at which many eminent persons of Slovenia, among other the sitting president Danilo Türk, once were students. The Ambassador awarded “Rose of Lidice” medal and a certificate to a student who has won a prize in the category of printmaking.
The headmaster of the grammar school, Ivan Lorenčič, guided the ambassador around the well furnished school. During the tour he detailed study programmes and out-of-school activities as well as the co-operation with the International School in Prague.
The last school visited was the Polančič Brothers Primary School where pupils of the 2nd grade welcomed the Ambassador with the song “Tancuj, tancuj, vykrúcaj”. After a certificate had been awarded in the presence of headmistress Brigita Smoglavec, a short discussion ensued. The ambassador presented children with several books of fairytales and rhymes in Czech language, which are to be placed in the school library.
In general, yesterday can be considered very successful. Children were very spontaneous, assuring Ambassador Petr Voznica of their participation in the next edition of the competition in hope of winning more prizes.
