ICEFA 2011 Prize Awards - Panama, Panama

30. 10. 2011

This year for the first time the international children’s exhibition of fine arts was attended by pupils from the Panama town of Lidice; originally, this town bore the name of Portero but in 1942 it was renamed to Lidice to commemorate the children from the Czech Lidice who had been killed by German Nazis.

Much credit for engaging children from the Panama Lidice in the competition goes to Ms. Tina Stahl, who, by coincidence, comes from the Venezuelan town of Lidice and presently lives in the Lidice in Panama. Having learned about the Lidice competition from the website, Ms Stahl visited the Lidice school, asking the teachers to prepare pictures for Lidice with the children and send them to the Honorary Consulate. Then Ms. Parkanova picked them up from there on her business trip and brought them to the Czech Republic.

This year as many as 31 children participated in the competition with three of them receiving honourable mentions for their entries. On 14 October 2011 Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Panama Ing. Herman Bern presented certificates and gifts to the following three pupils of the primary school in Lidice Panama: the nine-year-old Yerey Martinez, the nine-year-old Rogelio Campos, the ten-year-old Luis Rodriguez.

The prize awards to the best participants of the 39th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2011 took place in the presence of the teaching staff of the primary school in Lidice, Panama, the staff of the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Panama and Ms Tina Stahl.

The award ceremony was held in the office of the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Panama in a dignified and festive atmosphere, attended by not only the winners but also the teachers from Lidice school and other invited guests. After the festive event, the Honorary Consul took the guests out for a festive lunch in the restaurant of the Miramar Intercontinental Hotel. Hopefully, the awarded pupils will long remember this eventful day, with the ICEFA Lidice prizes being their reward and inspiration for the upcoming editions of the competition.
