ICEFA 2011 Prize Awards - Germany, Berlin

6. 12. 2011

On Thursday 1 December 2011 the Embassy in Berlin played host to the awards ceremony of the 39th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2011 featuring the theme „That is where I live, that’s me”. The only winner from the FRG of this year’s competition was fifteen-year-old Paul Mattern from the Leisure Time Centre Bürgerhaus Altglienicke in the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick. The young artist received a certificate and a gift parcel from Ambassador to the FRG Rudolf Jindrák. In his speech, Ambassador Jindrák appreciated the artistic aptitude of Paul Mattern and praised the unrelenting interest of German schools and leisure time centres to participate in the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice. He also invited the present pupils to the jubilee 40th edition of the competition, dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of Jiří Trnka, the founder of the Czech puppet and animated film.

The ceremony took place in the presence of sixteen guests. Among them, besides members of the Embassy staff, were Paul Mattern’s family, his schoolmates, representatives of the Leisure Time Centre Bürgerhaus Altglienicke led by Mr. Laube, Head of Visual Art Department, and Annette Indetzki, Head of School Office Treptow-Köpenick. In a personal discussion during a snack session prepared by the Embassy, Paul Mattern told that the award, which he appreciated very much, would be a strong incentive for his future creative work.
