ICEFA 2011 Prize Awards - Belgium, Brussel

27. 3. 2012

On 21 March 2012 the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Brussels hosted a prize-giving ceremony at which winners of the 39th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice received their honourable mentions. After a long time, the 39th edition of the art competition featuring the theme “This is Where I Live, That’s Me” was participated in again by children from Belgian schools. Two children received their prizes from the hands of Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium Ivo Šrámek.

Besides the winners (Arne Schotte, Marwan Dehou), the invitation to the prize-giving ceremony was extended also to their teachers and representatives of the schools Kunst Academie Wetteren and Katholieke Centrumschool Denderleeuv, their parents and other relatives.

Having welcomed the audience, Ambassador I. Šrámek opened the event with reminding the historical background of the competition and underlining the significance of its existence; then he congratulated the creators of the awarded entries, presenting them with honourable mentions. After that, while enjoying refreshments, the children obtained small keepsakes and watched a promotional DVD on the process of organizing the exhibition and assessing the exhibition entries.

The children as well as the representatives of the schools announced they will participate in the 40th edition of this international competition, stating that the prizes are not only strong incentives for the young creators of the awarded entries abut also a powerful impetus for their teachers to continue in their creative work.

Much of the credit for the promotion of the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice in Belgium goes to the visual artist Emi De Graeve, who sat in the expert panel of judges of this competition as a foreign member for the third time.

For the sake of completeness, we bring to your notice that Brussels will witness two exhibitions in July this year of the best awarded entries in the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 1999 – 2010 along with the exhibition on the history of Lidice (10 June 2012 marks the 70th anniversary of the Lidice tragedy). The exhibition will take place (under the auspices of European MEP V. Remek) at the European Parliament from 4 to 6 June 2012 and on the premises of the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the EU from 18 to 22 June 2012 (in co-operation with the Czech Centre).
