ICEFA Lidice 2012 Sub-Competition Prize Awards - Great Britain, Stoke-on-Trent

24. 1. 2012

Judging The 2012 UK Children's Fine Art Competition took place at Staffordshire University, Stoke-on-Trent on the 16th January.

Over 600 high quality works of art, sent in from across the British Isles were assessed by nationally recognised judges Frederick Phillips, Peter Smith, Rob Pointon, Julie Winwood, Julie Newbold, Susan Law-Webb and Harry Davies.

The children had clearly gone to great lengths to ensure that judging was a thoroughly enjoyable but a very difficult task. And this meant that deliberation took most of the day - with much discussion, debate and the odd disagreement!! However, it was all prosecuted in a most pleasant manner as the judges and organisers revelled in the quality of the work on display!

Prizes were awarded across counties at Primary, Secondary and Special school level, culminating in a national award for each level and an award for best overall school contribution. It was a very difficult task, deciding which pieces shouldn't receive an award. And perhaps next year the awarding system should change!

The organisers, Fenton based Art Venue CIC, were very ably assisted by volunteers from North Staffs YMCA and thanks must go to our partners Staffordshire University for the free use of the judging venue, as well as our patrons Christine King, the former vice Chancellor of Staffordshire University and TV celebrity and patron of the competition, Nick Hancock.

There will now be a prizegiving ceremony in Stoke-on-Trent before all entries are sent to the International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts.
