ICEFA 2013 Prize Awards - Hungary, Budapest, Kecskemét

21. 10. 2013

Also this year, Ambassadress of the Czech Republic to Hungary Helena Bambasová presented certificates and "Rose of Lidice" medals to the best participants of the children's art exhibition, who had won the major prizes in the 41st International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2013. Thanks to promotion, this year's edition, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of a global convention protecting folk art, crafts, ceremonies and traditional knowledge, saw an incredible 24,593 entries from 68 countries sent in, out of which 197 came from Hungaria.

This time, the awards of certificates and "Rose of Lidice" medals took place in Szent Imre Katolikus Primary School in Kecskemét and the highest award went to this primary school and children from local art group.

First, Ambassadress Helena Bambasová reminded the winners, their teachers and the guests about the "Lidice story", the circumstances of the constitution of the competition and stressed its importance. Before the actual presentation of the "Lidice Rose" medals and certificates, reminding the winners of their success in this major international art competition, children from the local school, under the guidance of their teachers, showed local folk dances and songs to the audience.

After the prize-giving ceremony, Madame Ambassadress visited the local mayor Dr. G. Zombor to discuss possibilities for further co-operation in connection with their informal partnership with the town of Tábor. The city of Kecskemét of circa 120,000 inhabitants is not only a centre of agriculture (esp. fruit-farming) but also a city of a new industry that thrives thanks to having important investors, the most renown of them being the German concern Daimler AG with the local Mercedes-Benz factory. The city is world-wide known for its international aerial shows, which also Czech representation took part in this year. The result of the meeting at the city hall was a request for mediating a partnership of the winning primary school with a school of similar orientation, preferably from the partner town Tábor, and organization of the "Czech Day".

The meeting of Madame Ambassadress with the winners and with representatives of local schools, municipal authority of Kecskemét, church dignitaries and representatives of Bács-Kiskun district authority was met with favourable response, awakening interest in the next edition of the competition as well as in furthering Czech-Hungarian relations.

Note: Also Czech Centres will remind the Hungarian public of the Lidice tragedy by organizing a separate exhibition of pictures from the last 10 editions of the ICEFA Lidice, which will be opened by Madam Ambassadress in the exhibition hall of the Embassy on the national holiday of the Czech Republic (24/10/ 2013).
