Ceremonial Opening

On Thuersday, 1 June 2017, at 11 a.m., in the presence of ambassadors and political and cultural figures of the Czech Republic, the Lidice Gallery in Lidice hosted the formal opening of the 45th INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S EXHIBITION OF FINE ARTS LIDICE 2017 featuring the theme TRAVEL. On that occasion “Lidice Rose” medals were handed over to the Czech awarded children artists and Czech and foreign school medalists received the Prize of the Panel of Judges.

There were among the guests Senator Jiří Dienstbier, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Chancery of the Ministry Ivana Červenková, Mrs Dita Limova – Head of UNESCO Division, Department of International Relations at Czech Ministry of Culture,  Mr Jaroslav Faltýn – Director of Preschool, Basic, Art and Special Education at Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Mrs. Monika Koblerová – legal representative of the Czech centers, Tomáš Skála, deputy mayor of Lidice, the chairman of the Panel of Judges of the Exhibition Josef Zedník and Director of the Agrofert Foundation Zuzana Tornikidis. As for the representatives of the diplomatic corps of the participating countries, the event enjoyed the presence of the ambassadors of Estonia, Luxembourg, Latvia, Macedonia, Mexico, Moldavia, Morocco, Turkey and Venezuela and representatives of the embassies and foreign institutes of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Palestine, Poland, Romania, Russia and Thailand.

From the early morning, children were treated to varied side events - art workshops in which children were able to create cyanotype prints, guided by Dmitry Rubinshteyn from the Gallery Zahradník, juggling performances and workshops by Vojta Vrtek, a specimen of a genuine Mongolian yurt from the Small Museum of Asia in Ledce, entertaining games prepared by the Leisure Centre Labyrint Kladno,  interactive tasks prepared in cooperation with the Invisible exhibition, DIY – wooden cars with Jan Nováček and horse and carriage rides.

 The prize-giving ceremony itself started at 11 a.m. with fanfares of the Brass choir of the Art School Marie Podvalové from Prague 9 followed by two songs performed by the Children’s choir of the International school of Prague. Then, having welcomed all the present, Director of the Lidice Memorial Mrs Martina Lehmanova briefly acquainted the audience with the facts and figures of this year's edition and thanked all organizers, collaborators and sponsors of the exhibition. After that Senator Jiří Dienstbier, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Chancery Ivana Červenková and Mr Jaroslav Faltýn – Director of Preschool, Basic, Art and Special Education at Czech Ministry of Eduacation, Youth and Sports joined Mrs Lehmanova to present prizes to 76 medalists from Czech schools – 'Rose of Lidice' medals and certificates as well as material gifts, e.g. cloth bags with the exhibition logo on them, books from the publishing house Nakladatelství Albatros and a magazine RAKETA from LABYRINT, art supplies by Nielsen and Faber-Castell and the award-winning picture made into a cardboard jigsaw puzzle from the Atlas Advertising group.

The second half of the prize-giving ceremony saw a change in the presenters. Mrs. Dita Limova – Head of UNESCO Division, Department of International Relations at Czech Ministry of Culture, Mrs. Monika Koblerová – legal representative of the Czech centers, Tomáš Skála, deputy mayor of Lidice and Chairman of the Expert Panel of Judges Josef Zedník came on the stage to present medals to foreign entrants at first - a medalist from Slovakia  and 3 medalists from Belarus. Then the highest prize – the Prize of the Panel of Judges for a Czech school – was presented, this year to the Art School Nové Město pod Smrkem for its unique collection of two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects of art and for its consistent work with children. Three medalists from that school came to receive their prizes and the main prize – a crystal palette from Rückl Crystal glassworks – was handed over to Headmaster Martina Funtánová. Director of the Agrofert Foundation Zuzana Tornikidis presented a financial reward of CZK10,000 to the headmaster for their high-quality work with children. The Prize of the Panel of Judges for a foreign school was presented to the representatives of the GBOU School No. 1955 from Moscow, Russia for their even and outstanding collection of watercolour paintings and for their long-standing successes in the competition. Two medalists received their medals from the hands of the presenters joined by the first secretary of the Russian Embassy Mrs. Ekaterina Barancheva. The crystal palette was handed over to the Director of the school Mrs. Olga Tishina and a teacher, Mr. Vsevolod Romankov.

After the prize-giving ceremony finished and a group photo of all winners was taken, the guests were invited to the opening and a tour of the exhibition on the second floor of the Lidice Gallery. In front of the Lidice Gallery, they were given a welcome again by fanfares of the Brass choir and after the cutting of the ribbon (senator Jiří Dientsbier, Dita Limová, the then child survivor of the Lidice tragedy Marie Šupíková and the youngest medalist Xenia Volčková from Slovakia), upwards of 500 visitors could see more than 1200 items by children from all the corners of the world. We are grateful for this year´s weather. After several editions full of rain, the weather this year was sunny, pleasant, and warm.

The exhibition will take place in Lidice from 1 June till 30 November 2017. After that, other locations in the Czech Republic and abroad will follow as a venue.

  • 11.00  Award presentation ceremony for the Czech and invited foreign laureates in the garden of the Lidice Gallery; the Children's Choir of the International School of Prague and and the brass ensemble of the Marie Podvalová Art School Prague 9 Čakovice will appear at the event
  • 13:30  Opening and a tour of the 45th exhibition

The exhibition is to be seen on the 2nd floor of the Lidice Gallery from 1 June till 30 November 2017, daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in November to 4 p.m.
