ICEFA LIDICE 201Í PRIZE AWARDS - SLOVAKIA, BRATISLAVA

8. 11. 2019

On 18 June 2019, the ceremonial room of the Czech Embassy in Bratislava had a prize-giving ceremony to children awarded medals and honourable mentions at the International Children'se Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice.

The International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts (ICEFA) was founded in 1967 to commemorate the child victims from the Czech village of Lidice who had been murdered by German Nazis, as well as all other children who died in wars. The obliteration of Lidice took place on 10 June 1942; 82 innocent Lidice children were murdered in the concentration camp Chelmno in less than a month after that (2 July 1942).

Although national initially, this exhibition became an international one in 1973 and in the course of its history gained renown among children and teachers not only in our country but literally all over the world.

Young Slovak artists definitely were not lost among their competitors of the 47th edition. 88 Slovak schools, institutions and individuals sent in 1,267 entries out of which 135 won awards (15 individual medals, 5 medals to schools, 1 medal for a team work and 114 honourable mentions).

It has become a kind of tradition that the Czech Embassy in Bratislava presents awards to young Slovak artists shortly after the prize-giving ceremony in Lidice and the year 2019 was no exception to that.

Sending our congratulations to all winners, we invite all young artists to participate in the next edition.
