ICEFA 2019 PRIZE AWARDS – KOSOVO, PRISTINA

8. 11. 2019

On 26 September 2019, Head of the Czech Embassy in Pristina Pavel Bílek presented the Honourable Mention of the Lidice Memorial to a schoolgirl from Kosovo, Elejsa Jashari from the Primary School Eqrem Qabej in Mitrovica.

The entry by Elejsa Jashari was the only one from Kosovo to rank among the award-winning entries at the International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2019. Pavel Bílek presented the certificate to Elejsa Jashari at the Czech Embassy in Pristina in the presence of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jashari and the schoolmistress Mrs. Remzija Alidemaj. In his brief speech, the head of the embassy pointed out the historical context of the exhibition to commemorate the Lidice children murdered by the Nazis. He also appreciated the interest of students in the exhibition, their talent and the support for the event provided by teachers.

The headmistress thanked the Embassy for the personal presentation of the certificate, which became an important event in the life of the school and a great motivation for pupils and teachers to participate in the next edition of the competition.

Pupils from Kosovo participated in the international exhibition of children's art for the first time ever in 2014, on the initiative of the Primary School Liria in the village of Pogragjë in the municipality of Gjilani. First successes of Kosovo pupils and promotion of the competition by the Czech Embassy in Pristina lead to greater awareness of the exhibition among other Kosovo schools. Since then, many Kosovo schools with hundreds of entries have entered the exhibition, with Kosovo students winning certificates almost every year.
