On 10/06/2013, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Mexico, in co-operation with the mayor’s office of Magdalena Contreras municipality, organized a cultural evening in the local community centre in the Mexico capital to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the extermination of Lidice. The evening opened with inauguration of two exhibitions loaned to Mexico by the Lidice Memorial: "Lidice Tragedy" and "International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts - the Best Winning Entries of 2002-2012". The exhibitions were installed in Foro Cultural Magdalena Contreas, a remodelled former textile mill, which is now the main exhibition, educational and cultural centre of the municipality. Included in Magdalena Contreras is also San Jeronimo Lidice district, which adopted the name of Lidice as early as 30 August 1942, being a separate village at that time.

Both exhibitions will be on display in Foro Cultural Magdalena Contreas till 1 June 2013. The cultural evening proceeded with the showing of the Czech film Lidice followed by a cocktail party for invited guests, among them the ambassador of the Russian Federation, representatives of the embassies of Germany and Slovakia as well as of the Federal District government. Remembering the Lidice events is the main theme of next week's Remembrance Week, in which Mayor's office of Magdalena Contreras organizes artistic and musical workshops for youth and adults and during which time a public showing of the film Lidice is to take place.
