ICEFA 2010 prize awards - Azerbaijan, Baku

27. 11. 2010

Commemorating the National Day of the Czech Republic – the day of establishment of the independent state – the Embassy in Baku arranged a ceremonial event on its premises on 29 October 2010 involving prize awards to the Azerbaijani participants in the 38th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice.

Head of the Diplomatic Mission Radek Matula handed over to the laureates honourable mentions (and to one of them also the “Lidice Rose” medal) and small material prizes provided by the Embassy in Baku.

In its 38th edition, the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice gained many new sympathizers in Azerbaijan. Having been opened in January 2010, the Embassy in Baku managed to address dozens of schools to present them with the invitation for the children to participate in this edition of the competition. A number of the schools addressed for the first time were able to prepare their entries before the closing date of the competition in March. This reflected in the number of Azerbaijani participants in the 38th edition of the competition: while there were 8 participants (1 award) representing Azerbaijan in 2008 and 25 participants (2 awards) in the following year, the year 2010 saw entries by 343 Azerbaijani children being sent to Lidice (with 11 of them being awarded). This way Azerbaijan jumped to the 14th position among 61 countries in terms of numbers of participants.

Besides the laureates and their teachers who received papers on the next edition of the artistic competition there were present also representatives of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and representatives of local HSP. The event also included a modest banquet for the attendees.

A number of major Azerbaijani news agencies made a full coverage on the event. As the Embassy in Baku issued a press release for the journalists, the invitation to participate in the 39th edition of the competition was widely publicized in the Azerbaijani media.
