ICEFA 2010 prize awards – China, Hong Kong

28. 1. 2011

On 16 November 2010, the Czech Consulate-General in Hong Kong saw Consul-General Jaroslav Kantůrek presenting an honourable mention to the boy Kum Ho Fung, a pupil of Ng´s Art School, whose artwork on the theme “Biodiversity – variety of living nature” had been awarded a prize in the 38th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts (ICEFA) Lidice 2010.

Besides the boy, the occasion was attended by his parents and the management of the school. In his brief presentation, the Consul-General mentioned the tragic historical event that took place in Lidice in 1942 as well as the tradition of the international art competition. Additionally, the representatives of the school were invited to support participation of their pupils in the following edition, which will feature the theme "That is where I live, that’s me".

Although the award ceremony itself was quite a small one in comparison with previous years, ICEFA Lidice received by far the greatest attention ever from Hong Kong this year.In fact, there were as many as five art schools participating in the competition, whereas entries by two children (Giovanni Chan Dun Yan, Kenny Lau Kin Gi) were awarded the “Rose of Lidice” medals and another two ones (Kum Ho Fung, Annie Lam Tsz Kwan) received honourable mentions. One certificate was sent to Canada where the family had moved in the meantime; another two prizes were taken over by the headmasters directly in the Lidice Memorial in May this year. It was also where the idea was conceived to organize a separate exhibition of works by the four-year-old Kenny Lau Kin Gi from the school Simply Art, who has become the youngest Chinese laureate of ICEFA Lidice. The exhibition of his pictures was on view in the Lidice Gallery from 14 to 31 October 2010, while the ceremonial opening took place in the presence of the talented little artist, who was also drawing there.
