ICEFA Prize Awards 2013 - Mongolia, Ulan Bator

On May 2nd, 2014 the prize award ceremony for the Mongolian winners of ICEFA Lidice 2013 took place in the Sky Plaza cinema, which shares the same building as the Czech Embassy in Ulan Bator. The theme of the 41st running of the competition was “Traditions and Heritage of My Country’s People”.
Despite the unexpected spring blizzard in the city streets, all six children who were listed among the 2013 competition’s 1404 winners were able to come to the ceremony. All of them were students of three schools from Ulan Bator and arrived accompanied by their parents and teachers. The Czech studies program students from the State University, Czech schools‘ graduates, as well as friends of Czech cinematography and the Czech Republic in general, traditionally attend this evening event.
In her opening speech, Ambassador U.Grollová mentioned the Lidice competition’s history and significance. She congratulated the children for their achievement in the competition and thanked their parents and teachers for their support and assistance. She then presented diplomas as well as small memorabilia on behalf of the Embassy to each of the children.
As an additional reward and further enrichement of the ceremony, the Czech fairy tale “Tři oříšky pro Popelku“ (Three Nuts for Cinderella) with Mongolian subtitles was projected to the guests. The screening was a part of the mini-festival called “Czech History on the Movie Screen“, which has been organized by the Czech Embassy since 2012. By observing the costumes and architectural elements of the Švihov and Moritzburg castles, viewers were able to fine tune their understanding of the differences between Late Gothic style, Renaissance and Baroque in Central Europe.
