The International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice is organized to commemorate the children from the Czech village of Lidice who were murdered by German Nazis in 1942. Every year children from dozens of countries of all continents participate in this exhibition, which is well known in our country as well as all over the world. We will be pleased if you join them in accepting our invitation to its 40th jubilee edition. We are looking forward eagerly to all entries to come in.

Theme

From among the anniversaries of worldwide significance in 2012 the Czech Republic has put forward to the UNESCO the 100th birth anniversary of Jiri Trnka (1912 – 1969), a world-famous painter, printmaker, puppeteer, sculptor and illustrator as well as a founder of Czech animated film. In tribute to him, the 40th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts features the following themes:

THE THEATRE – THE PUPPET – THE FAIRYTALE

  • What I have seen in the puppet theatre, my favourite play, my theatre experience
  • My favourite puppet, how puppets look in my country
  • Fine art components of the theatre – the wings, the curtain, the make-ups and the costumes
  • Who works in the theatre – actors, stage directors, musicians, artists
  • The auditorium, the audience and the atmosphere of the theatre
  • My favourite animated film, a draft poster for a film

For older children:

  • The history of theatre from the ancient times to the present
  • Famous theatres at home and abroad

Categories

  • drawing, painting, printmaking
  • photography
  • ceramics
  • combined techniques (sculptures, works made of metal, ceramics, wood, glass, textile and paper)

Prizes

  • Prize of the Panel of Judges
  • "Rose of Lidice" Medal – for individuals
  • Medals for schools for their collections of entries
  • Honourable mentions

Requirements of the competitive part

  • The exhibition is opened to children at age of 4 to 16.
  • The maximum format of a 2D entry is 70 x 50 cm.
  • There is no limitation in number of entries from an organization.
  • The panel of judges takes into account the adherence to the theme given for the current edition of the exhibition.
  • Works of art must be identified exactly the way set out in the instructions below.
  • Only original copies are admitted to the exhibition, reproductions or xerox copies are not admissible. Photographs must be on good-quality photographic paper.
  • Do not mount your entries on a board, fix them.

The schedule of the exhibition

  • 15 March 2012 - closing date of the 40th edition
  • 5 – 7 April 2012 – the session of the panel of expert judges
  • 10 May 2012 – publishing the results of the exhibition at www.mdvv-lidice.cz
  • 30 May 2012 - ceremonial opening of the exhibition and prize awards to the Czech laureates and a chosen foreign one
  • 31 May – 31 October 2012 – exhibition of the awarded entries at the Lidice Gallery.
  • June 2012 – distribution of prizes, catalogues and invitations to participate in the next edition to the winning schools and children in the Czech and Slovak Republics, and of letters of thanks to the non-winning schools.
  • September – December 2012 – prizes, catalogues and invitations for the next edition for child winners are dispatched to Czech embassies in foreign countries, which ensure the prize awards at Embassies or their distribution by post.
  • After the main exhibition is finished, smaller exhibitions will be created from the exhibits to tour other venues in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Labeling Entries

  1. Every entry must have directly on its reverse side the following information (Works of ceramics etc. must have their identification data directly on them):

    • Name and surname of the child (please, give it in the following order: (1) name, (2) surname)
    • Age and sex of the child
    • Full name and address of the school or organization of which the child is a representative.
    • State the address in the following order: name of the school, street, number, postal code, town, country. An announcement of a prize will be sent to this address. It is not necessary to give private addresses of children.
    • An e-mail address of the organization responsible for correspondence related to the exhibition. Please, state an e-mail address of the school or organization or any other e-mail address you can be contacted at.
  2. Descriptions must be LEGIBLE, written IN CAPITALS and IN ROMAN ALPHABET. Works not complying with this requirement will be disqualified.
  3. Please e-mail the data provided on the reverse side of entries to: info@mdvv-lidice.cz

CLOSING DATE FOR THE 40TH EDITION: 15 March 2012.
(works must be delivered to the Lidice Memorial by that date).

Works received after 15 March 2012 will be accepted for the next edition in 2013.

The organizer reserves the right to use the received entries for other non-commercial exhibitions and editions and to reproduce them in print. Entries will not be returned.

The Lidice Gallery endorses The UK Children's Fine Art Competition, which is the major UK contributor to the International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts.

The UK Children's Fine Art Competition is an exciting, highly rewarding and all inclusive fine art competition which aims to raise the aspirations of UK children and endow them with the best of values and principles:

Friendship, Tolerance, Empathy, Respect, Responsibility, Courage, Determination.

Art Venue CIC invites entries from UK schools and children. ALL artworks submitted to the UK competition are also entered into the ICEFA.

All children who enter are winners as each child receives a special certificate of achievement and recognition acknowledging the hard work and application they've put in.

There are prizes issued for exceptional work at both county and national level.
