ICEFA 2011 Prize Awards - Azerbaijan, Baku

6. 11. 2011

On 27 October 2011 the residence of the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan had a formal meeting of the Embassy officials with Azerbaijani participants in the 39th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts (ICEFA) Lidice 2011 to mark the national holiday of the Czech Republic.

After the record-breaking participation in last year’s edition, ICEFA proved to retain its popularity among schools as well as pupils and students. The number of the participants (38) as well as that of the entries (362) slightly increased on last year, but the interesting thing is that the number doubled of the prizes awarded by the ICEFA international panel of judges to Azerbaijani works of art (two Rose of Lidice medals to individuals, one medal to a school and nineteen honourable mentions). Thus, out of 66 participating countries (including the unrivalled Czech and Slovak Republics), Azerbaijan achieved 15th place in terms of the number of entries and 10th/11th place in terms of the number of prizes.

Besides the ICEFA winners, the award ceremony was attended by their teachers and parents as well as media people and representatives of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, who thanked the Czech Republic for the active work in engaging Azerbaijani children in ICEFA. Apart from the medals and the honourable mentions, Ambassador Radek Matula presented the children with some keepsakes provided by the Embassy in Baku (i.a. T-shirts with the ICEFA logo). The event included also some refreshments. The guests watched attentively the documentary on the 38th ICEFA Lidice 2010 (especially the bonus with pictures).

The teachers received materials on the next edition of the competition (the other schools will get the materials very soon). On the base of the press release the Embassy in Baku had distributed to the local media the major Azerbaijani press agencies and news servers broadcast a detailed report about the event.
