ICEFA 2012 Prize Awards - Belgium, Brussel

On 20 June 2012 Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium Ivo Šrámek gave honourable mentions to the winners of the 40th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice. Dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Jiří Trnka, a world-renowned painter, printmaker, puppeteer, sculptor and illustrator and the founder of the Czech puppet and animated films, to whose tribute the exhibition featured the theme “Theatre – Puppet – Fairytale”, this year’s edition saw six children of 8 to 9 years from Belgian schools receive their prizes.
Besides the child-winners also their teachers, representatives of their schools (KCD Katholieke Centrumschool Denderleeuv and Clara Viebig Schule Manderfeld), their parents and other relatives were invited to the prize-giving ceremony.
Since an exhibition of the best drawing entries of the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice (ICEFA) 1999 – 2010 was on view at the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU at that time, the price-giving event was attended also by Head of the Lidice Gallery and ICEFA Curator Ivona Kasalická and Euro MP Vladimír Remek.
Having welcomed the guest, Ambassador I. Šrámek presented the opening speech, in which he explained the reasons for establishing the competition and underlined its significance; then he congratulated the creators of the winning entries, giving them honourable certificates. After the children received some keepsakes, all in attendance could watch a presentation DVD on the course of the processing and the evaluation of entries. The event concluded with the children and their parents seeing with much interest the profile exhibition of the best ICEFA drawing entries 1999 – 2010.
