ICEFA 2013 Prize Awards - Slovenia, Ljubljana

On 6 November 2013 the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Slovenia hosted the prize-giving ceremony of the 41st International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice The child-winners from five Slovenian primary schools came along with their parents, teachers and the headmaster of their school. The opening speech of the ceremony was presented by Peter Župančič, a deputy-director of pre-school and primary school education department of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Sovenia. Then Ambassador of the Czech Republic Petr Voznica briefly addressed the audience, reminding them of the mission of the international children's exhibition. Also a short presentation took place of photographs from the Lidice Memorial, the Lidice Gallery and the International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice from all over the world.
Again this year many pupils participated from primary schools and nurseries across Slovenia. This way they took part in a global art project on the theme "Tradition and Heritage of My Country's People", in which upwards of 24.000 entries from 68 countries were registered. The expert panel of judges selected more than 1.400 top pieces of art. Slovenia received 23 prizes, which is the most in the history of the competition. Certificates were given to pupils of five primary schools; three medals were awarded to two primary schools for their collections of prints and to the girl Julija Bertalanič. Apart from the certificate, every pupil received a keepsake from the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana. After the prize-giving, the staff of the Embassy offered pupils and their teachers some refreshments while Ambassador invited the representatives of the schools to participate in the next ICEFA edition.
