ICEFA 2015 Prize Awards - Lithuania, Vilnius

26. 10. 2015

On 13 October 2015, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Vilnius hosted a prize-award ceremony to celebrate the winners of the International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts LIDICE 2015.

Dedicated to the theme "LIGHT" at suggestion of the Czech Commission for UNESCO to mark 2015 as the International Year of Light, this year's edition saw 21,380 participating children from 71 countries.

Lithuanian participants were very successful this year: they have been awarded 7 medals, 2 medals for art schools and 24 honourable mentions. Although the theme "Light" was definitely not an easy one, all works of young Lithuanian artists demonstrated their courage to start a rather difficult creative work, employing interesting ideas and innovative forms, dealing successfully not only with the external light, but also the inner, spiritual one.

The ceremony was opened by a young musician from the Trakai Art School, Nerijus Čepulis, who played on the tuba the "Prelude" by famous Lihuanian artist and composer of the early 20th century M. K. Čiurlionis. Then Airidė Stankevičiūtė from the Trakai Art School played pieces by J.S. Bach and Marta Meier on the piano.

Having welcomed all laureates, their parents, siblings, teachers and other guests, Ambassador B. Mazánek thanked all for their participation in this major international art competition, wished the laureates much success in the future, thanked teachers and parents for the responsible preparation of the children / artists and the necessary patience and expressed his confidence that Lithuanian students will demonstrate the same determination and effort in the 2016 edition on the theme "School? Education!".

However, the most enjoyable for children was the later part of the afternoon when the ambassador of the Czech Republic to Lithuania presented medals and certificates to the winners from Trakai Art School, Lithuanian Training Centre for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Panevéžys Art School, "Mintis" Gymnasium in Vilnius, J. Grušas Gymnasium in Kaunas, Elektrénai Art School, Utena Progymnasium and Jonava and Prienai Art Schools.

Having received their prizes, the children and their parents and teachers were treated to some refreshments prepared by the staff of the Embassy and their families.
