ICEFA 2015 Prize Awards - Azerbaijan, Baku

26. 10. 2015

The 43rd International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts LIDICE was not such a success for young Azerbaijanian artists as was the previous one. Last year, 10 entries by Azerbaijanian children were awarded while this year it was only 4 out of 102 entries sent in to Lidice.

After all, the theme "Light" was more challenging than the last year's theme, "Agriculture", which was obviously more familiar to the children. That translated into the way the children approached the theme; they conceived their pictures very realistically in terms of concept and implementation. As became clear from discussions with the award-winning children and their teachers, the next year's edition with the theme “School? Education!” will be a bit easier for them.

The children whose work had been awarded with honourable mentions were invited along with their parents and teachers to visit the Czech Embassy in Baku on 20 October 2015. In his opening address, Ambassador Vítězslav Pivoňka spoke about the significance of ICEFA LIDICE, characterized this year's edition of the contest and above all, congratulated the children, their parents and teachers on the success they had achieved.

Then the floor was given to the young artists, who explained their approach to the theme, described the creative process and the technique applied. Then the tradition was followed that  that the representative office have the pictures print on canvas and the artists put their signatures to their respective pictures at the prize-giving ceremony. The pictures then enrich the gallery in the premises of the representative office.

The young artists were encouraged to continue their work not only by the certificates and sweets but also by scarves (for the girls) and bow ties (for the boys) made by their older colleague, a well-known Azerbainian artist, Menzer Hajiyeva.

After the official opening, a lively debate got underway between the staff of the Embassy, some of whom took part in the presentation of the Czech confectionery, and the Azerbaijani partners, which concerned not only the ICEFA itself, which was highly appreciated, but also further plans of the young artists.

Detailed information with many photographs carried the press agencies APA and The First News. Other information was published by the press agency Interfax. The information about the event has been put on the website of the embassy in Baku.
