ICEFA 2015 Prize Awards - Hungary, Budapest, Magyarpolány, Szombathely

26. 10. 2015

On 13 October 2015, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Hungary Juraj Chmiel presented certificates and “Rose of Lidice” medals to six children who had won the major prizes in the 43rd International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2015. This year's competition had 21,380 entries from 71 countries, among them 164 by Hungarian pupils of 10 schools in total. The expert jury decided to award 13 entries by children from Hungary.

The certificates and the “Rose of Lidice” medals were formally presented to the winners at the Municipal Office in Magyarpolány. As regular participants of this international art contest, pupils of the Art school Magyarpolány won six honourable mentions and two medals in total this year. Besides Mayor J. Grőber and the award-winning children, also Headmistress M. Makada, Deputy Headmaster, T. Csabai and the notary public of the village, G. Dobosi, attended the prize-giving event.

Ambassador J. Chmiel thanked children for their participation in the competition and the teachers for the long-term support and guidance of the children so that they were able to create their works in accordance with the instructions of the competition. Having mentioned the theme of the next, 44th ICEFA Lidice (School? Education!), which provides a wide range of creative possibilities, he invited the children to participate. The award-winning children were presented with small gifts representing the Czech culture and the beauties of our country.

Then a discussion followed in which Headmistress M. Makada mentioned that the school is a regional one, with 700 pupils engaging in wide variety of artistic activities. With the village of Magyarpolány having two German partner towns, the cooperation at the school level is one of the basic ways of exchanging experiences and building contacts. Mayor J. Grőber confirmed that the village is interested in establishing cooperation with a partner from Czechia with the same characteristics (an art school, interest in maintaining the cultural heritage, activities promoting rural traditions etc.). For the sake of completeness, Magyarpolány is a village of 1,270 people with a connection to old German inhabitants, situated 35 km from the north shore of the Balaton Lake.

The programme included a visit to the classes of the art school and an informal meeting with the children of the school.

Meeting the children and the representatives of the school as well as the representatives of the municipality was a mutually inspiring event that set the grounds for broadening the Czech-Hungarian cultural cooperation.
