ICEFA 2015 Prize Awards - Ethioipa, Addis Abeba

On 7 December 2015, Ambassador Karel Hejč presented an honourable mention of the 43rd International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice to Miss Eden Zekarias from the secondary school BeteSeb Academy in Addis Ababa.
The private BeteSeb Academy, comprising a nursery, a first- and a second-level school, is one of few regular participants in ICEFA Lidice. In each of the last three years, one of the students of the schools received a honourable mention.
The management of the school takes an award in this contest very seriously, in fact, as a matter of prestige. As last year, it organized a prize-giving ceremony of the 43rd edition of the contest in a decorated auditorium (including Czech flags, video presentation of Czech traditions, a notice board with facts about Czechia and a portrait of the Czech president), which, besides the school management and the teachers, was attended by something like a hundred students. After the Czech and Ethiopian anthems and brief addresses by the schoolmaster and the ambassador were heard, the latter presented the honourable mention to the prize-winning girl. Then he gave her and her predecessors from the last two edition of the contest small school bags with artistic equipment bought from the charity collection organized by the English-Czech gymnasium Amazon in Prague to help children from Ethiopian schools. (Note: Most of the collection is meant for children attending the nursery and school for handicapped children and for children from the poorest background, which is supported by the Embassy as a small local project and which is located in the same neighbourhood.) The programme of the ceremony concluded with a dancing performance by girls attending the school.
