ICEFA 2015 Prize Awards – Albania, Tirana

On Friday 11 December 2015, the embassy of the Czech Republic in Tirana had a prize-giving ceremony to celebrate three Albanian children who had won honourable mentions in this year's 43rd International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2015.
The honourable mentions were presented to the children by Ambassador Bronislava Tomášová in person. Then a discussion took place with children and their families. Madame Ambassador Tomášová acquainted the attendees with the sad history of the village of Lidice, mentioning the story of the Albanian village of Borovë, which met a similar fate – on 6 June 1943, a German convoy was ambushed near the village; in retaliation, the 107 inhabitants of Borovë, including young children, were murdered the same day.
Madame Ambassador Tomášová also showed interest in the artistic beginnings of the prize-winning children and informed the guests about the history of the International Children's exhibitions of Fine Arts Lidice. In this connection, she mentioned that this contest has participants from all over the world and aims primarily at promoting the idea of peace.
