ICEFA 2015 Prize Awards in Iasi

On February 22nd, 2016 Roman Prosa, the Czech Consul General to Bucharest, paid a visit to the Vasile Conta Elementary School, Iasi. He was met by the school's principal, teachers and the art teacher Aurel Dascalu, and in their presence he handed out the awards to the ICEFA Lidice 2015 laureates. The prizes to the winners from Constanta, Cluj and Suceava were shipped to them by mail and the children awarded from Chitila, Buftea and Bucharest will receive theirs at the embassy on June 9th, 2016.

ICEFA 2015 Prize Awards in Bucharest

9 June 2016, the Lidice tragedy anniversary eve, saw the the ceremonial hall of the Embassy in Bucharest host an event organised in cooperation with the Czech Centres Bucharest, called Remembering Lidice Annihilation and commemorating the would-be 90th birthday of Arnošt Lustig, who had been writing about the tragedy. On this occasion, the award-winning Romanian children in the 43rd International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2015 received their prizes.

The event was opened by Vladimír Války. Having welcomed the guests, he mentioned the importance of Lidice for the present and the future. The host of the event was a professor at the Bucharest University, Mrs Anca Irina Ionescu, presently the most prominent Romanian lecturer in Czech studies and a future laureate of Gratias Agit Award 2016. The theme of the Lidice legacy was further developed by the present President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania, Mr. Aurel Vainer. He mentioned the period of WWII, the standing of Jewish inhabitants in then Romania and the then situation in the Central European countries including the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The guest of honour Eva Lustigová elaborated on the life and legacy of her father, the author Arnošt Lustig. As she pointed out, his literary work, including his last book "The Case of Marie Navarová", also deals with the person of the Deputy Reichsprotektor Reinhard Heydrich. Heydrich and his standing in the warring Europe including attempts on his life were discussed by the present foremost Romanian historian Mihai Retegan. The well-known Romanian film scholar Dan Mircea Duṭa showed a sequence from the Czechoslovak film Atentát to the audience, accompanying it with his comments.

In conclusion, Head of Consular Department Roman Prosa presented honourable prizes including books from the Embassy to eight Romanian laureates of the 43rd International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2015.

The event enjoyed substantial attention of the public; it was attended by 50 people and covered by Romanian mass media.
