ICEFA Lidice 2015 Prize Awards - Armenia, Jerevan

10 March 2016 saw Ambassador Petr Mikyska, Deputy Head of Representative Office Ani Shaginyan and Director of Komitas Museum-Institute Nikolaj Kostandjan present honourable mentions to eight Armenian children awarded by the international panel of judges of the 43rd International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice. The "Rose of Lidice" medal for a collection of works was presented to representatives of H. Sharambeyan Children's Art School in Dilijan.
The honourable mentions went to Astchik Abovyan (6 years), Meline Badalyan (15), Artur Davtyan (6), Anna Hovhannisyan (11) and Edmon Hovhannisyan (13) (all of them pupils of H. Sharambeyan Children's Art School, Dilijan), Lilit Barseghyan (10, Art School Nor Hachen), Ella Galashyan (13, Art School Studio Vardges Gulikjan, Jerevan) and Kristine Hovsepyan (15, Gasparyan Art Studio, Jerevan). There were 205 Armenian entrants in the 43rd ICEFA Lidice.
This year for the first time, the prize-giving ceremony took place in the museum dedicated to the Armenian composer Komitas. To encourage and motivate all old and new participants, the Embassy invited not only the award-winning artists but also representatives of the schools that were not successful this year. The hall of the museum hosted more than 120 children and their parents; the small refreshments at the end of the programme were reduced to a 15minute one-time "run".
A presentation provided an opportunity for the children to acquaint themselves with the Lidice tragedy and the history development of the international art competition. Every winning entry was shown on the screen and, after receiving a certificate and some keepsakes, each winner described their work and the circumstances of its creation, which often amused the audience. The prize-giving ceremony enjoyed the attention of not only young artists and their parents and teachers but also of the Armenian media – reports and interviews were carried in all important news portals and public radio and television.
