ICEFA Prize Awards 2014 - Latvia, Riga

On November 11th, 2014, jury prize awards were handed out in Riga to Latvian winners of the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2014. The Latvian entrants have traditionally been extremely successful, and this year was no different. Thirty children received an honorable mention and 2 children were awarded the Rose of Lidice medal. As for collective works, 3 schools were awarded an honorable mention while 2 won the Rose of Lidice medal.
As in previous years, the main building of Riga’s City Hall became the staging ground for the award ceremony. At the beginning of the ceremony Agra Bērzina from the Latvian National Center for Education, Eiženija Aldermane, the Head of Education, Culture and Sport of Riga, and Ms. Daniela Mustilová, the Deputy Ambassador of the Czech Republic all spoke to the child contestants, teachers and parents.
After handing out the diplomas and medals, a Czech film version of the fairy tale “Cinderella“ (titled Tři oříšky pro Popelku – 3 nuts for Cinderella) was shown to the visitors. A simultaneous translation into Latvian was provided by Ms. Eiženija Aldermane, a pedagogue, Bohemist and a member of the Latvian-Czech association Halina Lapiņa.
During the event the Latvian partners repeatedly thanked the Czech Embassy in Riga for its assistance in preparing and carrying out the Latvian portion of the competition. ICEFA Lidice represents a very popular and cherished way to publicize the Czech Republic in Latvia.
