ICEFA 2014 Prize Awards - Australia, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth

Due to the large distances between locales, two award ceremonies for ICEFA Lidice 2014 took place separately in Australia.

On Saturday November 22nd the Czech Ambassador in Australia, Martin Pohl handed out an Hounourable Mention and some gifts to a student of the Czech School in Melbourne, Chantelle Vasitch, for her photographs. This action took place at VodaFest Melbourne, in front of more than a thousand of visitors to this Czech and Slovak Festival.

A day later, on November 23rd, students of the Czech School in Perth were awarded their prizes as part of the school’s fifth aniversary. First the students sang the Czech national anthem and then the Czech Honourary Consul in Western Australia, Mr. Zdeněk Cihelka, handed out the ICEFA Lidice 2014 awards. The competition’s highest award, The Rose of Lidice medal, together with a diploma, went to eight-year old Liam Červenka for his painting “Apricot Compote“. An Hounourable Mention for a painting titled “The Fruit Basket“ was awarded to his twin brother Noah Červenka. Alexandra Shand, the artist behind the Lidice art workshop held at the school, was also present at the ceremony. All the children whose works were sent to the competition were then called onstage and a mention of appreciation for participation was handed out to them, as well as to the school, by the Consul.

Australia and New Zealand participated in ICEFA Lidice thanks to the efforts of the Czech Consulate in Sydney. This was the second time the Czech School in Melbourne participated in the competition, while it was a debut for the Perth school. We would like to thank Mrs.Kasalická for her support and excellent organizational work.
