ICEFA Prize Awards 2014 – Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, the Seychelles

As part of a business mission to the Seychelles, the Czech Ambassador to Ethiopia Karel Hejč presented an honorable mention from the 42nd International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice to a student of the Beau Vallon Secondary School.
Since the year 2012 Seychelles school children have taken part in large numbers in ICEFA Lidice and received a number of prizes. 16-year-old Ryan Gabriel, a student of Beau Vallon Secondary School was awarded in last year’s competition.
The Czech Embassy in Addis Ababa sees the competition as an extraordinary form of international promotion of the Czech Republic abroad and to build constructive interaction between two otherwise quite distant nations. That also formed the reason why the Ambassador visited the school and delivered the honourable mention in person. To show the school’s great appreciation of the award, the Headmistress gathered not only the whole class, but also the entire school management and all the art teachers at the studio, where the subject is taught and where the award-winning works were created. That way the award event felt festive and tied in nicely to a short culture program. In his introductory words the Ambassador congratulated not only the student, but also to the educational board, which is involved in the repeated success of Seychelles children in the competition. He commemorated the Lidice tragedy, pointing out that in spite of this horrific event., the art competition’s main goal is the celebration of the world’s beauty and joy.
At the end he pointed out to the other students that during the time of his participation in the competition their classmate would effectively be an „Ambassador of his country“ in the true sense of the words, and Mr. Hejč urged them to use his example as encouragement to participate in the upcoming year‘s competition.
