ICEFA 2014 Prize Awards - Ethiopia, Addis Ababa

On November 27th, 2014 the Czech Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Karel Hejč, paid a visit to the BeteSeb Academy located on the outskirts of the capital Addis Ababa in order to deliver an ICEFA Lidice 2014 honourable mention to a 10-year old girl Nasanit Bekele.
Both the teachers and the school management see this award as a very prestigious matter. This was obvious from the award ceremony, carried out by local standards in a truly magnificent style. The schoolyard was festively decorated and all the school’s students, staff and the girl’s parents present at the ceremony. After the Headmaster’s speech the children sang the Ethiopian National anthem. The Ambassador went over the exhibition‘s history and explained its significance, and then after presenting the student her award, he encouraged the children to participate in the upcoming round of the exhibition. Their enthusiastic attitude can be plainly seen in the accompanying photos taken at the awards ceremony.
In addition to Ethiopia and the Seychelles the ICEFA Lidice 2015 call for entries was distributed among the other countries serviced by the Czech Embassy in Ethiopia, namely Djibouti, South Sudan, Somalia and the Comoros. The Czech Embassy in Addis Ababa sees the competition as an extraordinary form of international promotion of the Czech Republic abroad and a way to build constructive interaction between two otherwise quite distant nations. During the time of their participation children become „Ambassadors of their country“ in the true sense of the word. The Embassy sees the exhibition suporting local education and culture and hopes ICEFA Lidice keeps on expanding.
