ICEFA 2014 Prize Awards - Albania, Tirana

On Friday December 5th, 2014, awards were handed out at the Czech Embassy in Tirana to two Albanian children who excelled in the 42nd running of the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice. The children received honourable mentions from Ambassador Bronislava Tomášová in person. Afterwards there was a debate between her, the students and their family members. Ambassador Tomášová presented the sad history of Lidice to the guests and drew a parallel with the Albanian village Borovë which shares a similarly tragic story with Lidice – on July 6th, 1943, partisans attacked a German military convoy and in retaliation,107 citizens of Borovë, including children, were murdered later that day.
Ambassador Tomášová was further interested in the early art experience of the winning child artists, and she introduced the history of the International Children’s Art Exhibition Lidice to the visitors. She pointed out that children from the whole world take part in the competition, the main idea of which is to spread the idea of peace.
