ICEFA Prize Awards 2014 - Turkey, Istanbul

On December 3rd, 2014, the Czech Consulate General in Istanbul organized a prize award ceremony for the students of Kocaeli Bahçeşehir and Bahçeşehir Etiler schools, whose works were awarded in the 42nd running of the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice.
In her opening speech, the Czech Consul General, Mrs.Ester Lauferová, welcomed the guests and explained to them the origins and significance of this art competition, which was established in 1967 to commemorate the child victims from the Czech village of Lidice murdered by German Nazis, as well as all other children who have died in wars. After that, Consul Lauferová congratulated the winners for their success in the competition and expressed her pleasure over the fact that Turkish schools annually participate in the ICEFA Lidice and they regularly win awards.
The international panel of judges selected the best works out of a total of 27 868 entries from 77 countries. In the end, 1516 of the best ones were awarded a prize, with 7 children receiving their awards from the hands of the Consul in the presence of parents and schools‘ representatives. There was also an award for the Kocaeli Bahçeşehir school for a special collection of works by the students.
Children, parents and representatives of schools always treasure the formal reception at the Consulate and some do not hesitate to travel many hours to attend. We see this event as very important in terms of the Czech Republic’s visibility in Turkey and also as an opportunity to raise the awareness of our country‘s history and culture among the Turkish people.
