ICEFA 2016 Prize Awards - Slovenia, Ljubljana

On 10 February 2017 the Ambassador of the Czech republic Mrs. Vera Zemanova and the Slovenian Minister of Education Maja Makovec Brencic handed over honorable mentions to the pupils of Slovenian primary schools who had been awarded in the 44th year of the International Children´s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice. The prize award ceremony took place on the premises of the Ministry of Education, science and sports of Slovenian republic in Ljubljana. Mrs Zemanova and Mrs Brancic also held a business meeting prior to the prize awards ceremony.

Slovenian schools are regular participants of the children´s art competition organized by Lidice Memorial and are represented by a growing number of school entries. 365 works from 30 Slovenian schools entered the 44th year of the competition. 7 Primary schools and 17 pupils were awarded and Rosovic Elementary School Sveti Jurij received a medal as last year.

Besides the winning children, the schools´ headmasters, teachers and the students´parents were present at the prize award ceremony. In her opening speech the Slovenian  Minister of Education Maja Makovec Brencic gave appreciation to all the artistic work of the children as well as the teachers. She emphasized the importance ot the international art competition and exhibition in Lidice. The Czech Ambassador Vera Zemanova appreciated all the participants´ effort and congratulated the children on their awards. She thanked the Slovenian Ministry of Education for its help in organizing the prize award ceremony and for their information regarding the comptetition to schools in Slovenia. Together they handed over the prize awards and medals to the recipients.

The ceremony itself is very popular with the children, teachers and parents and especially for the awarded children it is an important event which brings a satisfaction with their effort. Approximately 40 guests from Slovenia took part in the ceremony and they could see all the awarded pieces of art by Slovenian children during the supporting projection. After the offical part of ceremony there was an informal time for the participants and refreshments were provided as well.

Before the ceremony started the Czech Ambassador V.Zemanová and the Minister of Education M.Makovec Brencic commented on the actual school and scientific cooperation  between the two countries and expressed their common interest in growing relationship. Vera Zemanova informed the Minister of Education of Czech offers to the Slovenian students – The Summer School of Slavonic Studies and European Summer School. Last of all the Minister thanked for the scholarship provided by the Czech party and for every year cooperation on organizing the ICEFA Lidice. In her oppinion it is a beneficial part of teaching arts which helps the students to get aquainted with modern history of Europe.
