Ceremonial Opening

On Tuesday 28 May 2019 at 11 a.m., in the presence of ambassadors and cultural and political figures of the Cech Republic, the Lidice Gallery hosted the opening of 47th INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S EXHIBITION OF FINE ARTS LIDICE 2019 featuring the theme of CHEMISTRY, which was an opportunity for presenting 'Rose of Lidice' medals to the best young artists from Czechia as well as Czech and foreign pupils of the schools winning the Prize of the Panel of Judges.

The opening was attended by Senator Jiří Dienstbier, the authorized representative of the Department of Museums Dana Jandová, Head of the Separate Division of the Protection of Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture Magda Němcová, Head of Public Diplomacy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eva Dvořáková, Jan Czerný from the Sub-Saharan Africa Department of the same ministry, Chief Secretary of the Czech Commission for UNESCO René Zelený, Mayor of Kladno Dan Jiránek, Head of the UNESCO Division at the Ministry of Culture Dita Limová, Mayoress of Lidice Veronika Kellerová, Chairman of the Panel of Judges for the exhibition Josef Zedník, Head of the Department of History of Science and Technology at the National Technical Museum Ivana Lorencová, a specialist for social sciences at the Czech Centres Hana Pištorová and Director of the Agrofert Foundation Zuzana Tornikidis.
From among the partners of the exhibition, there were present: Assistant Dean Lucie Stříbrná from the University of Pardubice – Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, Director of the Association of Chemcial Industry of the Czech Republic Ivan Souček, Director of the Vltava River Basin Authority Tomáš Kendík.
Also present were ambassadors and representatives of embassies in the Czech Republic:

  • Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco H.E. Ms. Hanane SAADI
  • Ambassador of the State of Israel H.E. Mr. Daniel Martin MERON
  • Ambassador of the Argentine Republic H.E. Mr. Roberto Alejandro SALAFIA.

There were among the present also representatives of the embassies of Russia, Turkey, Hungary, Romania, Malaysia, Palestine, Moldova, Armenia, Serbia and Georgia. 

From early morning, an entertaining educational programme on chemistry has been prepared by the National Technical Museum, the University of Chemistry and Technology Prague and Techmania Science Center.

The prize-giving ceremony started at 11 a.m. with a flourish of trumpets by the brass band of the Marie Podvalová Art School in Prague 9 and three songs by the children's choir of the International School of Prague. Then, having welcomed all the present, Director of the Lidice Memorial Martina Lehmannová briefly acquainted the audience with the facts and figures of this year's edition and thanked all organisers, collaborators and sponsors of the exhibition. Then speeches followed, delivered by Head of the Department of Museums of the Ministry of Culture Dana Jandová, Head of Public Diplomacy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eva Dvořáková and a representative of the National Technical Museum Ivana Lorencová.

Then Senator Jiří Dienstbier and Mayor of Kladno Dan Jiránek joined the director on the stage to present prizes to 66 medallists from Czech schools – 'Rose of Lidice' medals and certificates and other material gifts.
The second half of the prize-giving ceremony saw a change in the prize-givers with the coming of Jiří Czerný from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chief Secretary René Zelený from UNESCO and Hana Pištorová from the Czech Centres to present medals to foreign participants from Slovakia and from Vienna (Austria).
This year, the Prize of the Panel of Judges went to the Citizens Art Association SLNEČNICE from Bratislava for their absolutely unique collection. Besides the children, also the statutory representative of Art Slnečnice Monika Čurillová came to receive the glass palette.

Then the highest prize was presented – the Prize of the Panel of Judges for Czechia, this year awarded to F. X. Richter Art School Holešov for their strong and varied collection. Besides a glass palette received by Karel Jokóbkov, Jana Jokóbková and Kateřina Zelenková, the school also received a financial support of 10,000 CZK presented by Director of the Agrofert Foundation Zuzana Tornikidis for good work with children.

After the prize-giving ceremony finished and a group photo of all winners was taken, the guests were invited to the opening and a tour of the exhibition on the second floor of the Lidice Gallery where circa 1,000 exhibits is on display. Due to the inclemency of the weather, the flourish of trumpets by the brass band and the ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in the lobby of the Lidice Gallery. The ribbon was cut jointly by Director of the Lidice Memorial Martina Lehmannová, Curator Lenka Zmeková, Assistant Dean of the university of Pardubice, Faculty of Chemistry and Technology Lucie Stříbrná, Head of the Department of Science and Technology of the National Technical Museum Ivana Lorencová and Chairman of the Panel of Judges Josef Zedník. With the ribon cut, over 400 visitors could tour the exhibition designed by the art director Dagmar Šubrtová.

At 2 p.m. circa 200 participants started their trip on vintage buses to the National Technical Museum in Prague, where they were welcomed by Ivana Lorencová while Rector of the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague Karel Melzoch gave the opening speech. Also director of the Lidice Memorial and Curator Lenka Zmeková expressed their appreciation in their speeches.

Open exclusively to the ICEFA visitors, the National Technical Museum offered them a unique opportunity to tour the following expositions undisturbed: Transportation Hall, Photographic Studio, InterCamera, Chemistry Around Us and astronomy, as well as the exhibitions Made in Czechoslovakia and Prague Sample Fairs.

At 4 p.m. the ceremonial opening of the second part of the exhibition took place, presenting circa 200 exhibits, including the spatial ones.

INVITATION TO THE OPENING CEREMONY IN THE GARDEN OF THE LIDICE GALLERY AND AT THE NATIONAL TECHNICAL MUSEUM IN PRAGUE ON 28TH MAY 2019

Out of 1179 award-winning pictures, just under 1000 will be on display at the Lidice Memorial – Lidice Gallery and circa 200 at the National technical Museum. 
! The opening ceremony will take place at the two venues on the same day! 

  • Lidice Gallery (the main opening ceremony, at which young artists will receive medals from representatives of ministries that have assumed auspices over the competition)
  • National Technical Museum (a secondary ceremony, at which children will be welcomed by NTM representatives and treated to an educational programme in the section of chemistry; the second part of the exhibition will be formally opened)

PROGRAMME:
7.30 – 8.45 am Registration of medallists at the Lidice Gallery
8.00 am – 3.00 pm Entertaining programme for children in the garden of the Lidice Gallery developing the theme of chemistry
9.00 – 9.30 am Rehearsal of the prize-giving in the garden (only the medallists) 
11.00 am – 1.00 pm Ceremonial prize-giving to medallists from the Czech Republic and invited foreign winners in the garden of the Lidice Gallery. Children's Choir of International School of Prague and the Brass Band of Marie Podvalová School in Prague 9 – Čakovice will appear at the event
1.00 – 2.00 pm Ceremonial opening of the 47th edition of the exhibition and the tour of it
2.00 pm Departure for Prague on vintage buses to arrive directly outside the National Technical Museum (transport back to Lidice is also arranged). THE BUS NEED TO BE BOOKED!!!
3.00 – 4.00 pm Guided tour for the public or an educational programme for children in the section of chemistry 
4.00 pm Ceremonial opening of the exhibition. The Brass Band of Marie Podvalová School in Prague 9 – Čakovice will appear at the event 
4.45 pm Departure for Lidice on vintage buses

SIDE EVENTS IN THE GARDEN OF THE LIDICE GALLERY:

An entertaining educational programme on chemistry has been prepared by the National Technical Museum, the University of Chemistry and Technology Prague and the Techmania Science Center:

  • Pharaoh's serpents – Sugar can burn in such a way that "Pharaoh's serpents" of weird shapes start leaving the dish!

  • Water and its magic – Is water really boring in terms of chemistry? Not a whit! It offers a lot of entertaining experiments!
  • Detective chemistry – Learn how to take fingerprints and become a detective in your environment!
  • Does sugar or flour burn? – Come and see!

+ gyroscopic vehicles Segway, a fairy-tale about a snowflake with UV elements, brain teasers and rebuses, secret writing, tricks with coloured solutions and a lot of other interesting things related to CHEMISTRY
